Low notes
Lowest note on a straight tenor trombone (no F attachment): the slide goes all the way out.
First position, slide all the way in.
Middle notes
Many bands tune to this F as well as to concert B♭.
The usual tuning note for brass: first position.
High notes
Bring the slide in slightly from the normal 3rd position spot.
Bring the slide in slightly from the normal 2nd position spot.

How to read this chart
Position 1 is the slide all the way in. Position 7 is the slide all the way out.
“Raised” means bring the slide in a little from the usual spot, because that note sits flat in its normal position.
Which notes come first
Most beginners start around B♭ and F in first position, then learn the positions out to 7th. The notes above the staff come later.
